Malgré sa carapace de gros dino constituée de plaques osseuses recouvertes de corne, et son corps de petit robot formant une succession de ceintures rigides séparées de zones souples permettant au tatou de se recroqueviller sur lui-même en cas de danger, cette créature apparue sur notre planète il y a déjà plus de 55 millions d'années (ça fait relativiser sur notre ridicule présence sur terre) n'est plus capable de se protéger contre les attaques de l'homme, la plupart des lieux où il pouvait se balader pépère ont été dévastés par la déforestation et on lui court après pour le transformer en mandoline ou en panier.
